If you’re looking for something neat, tidy and professional, there’s nothing wrong with a clean, clutter-free background. Messiness can distract viewers and make you look more disorganised than anything.
Choose a wall or area that is free from unnecessary items and visual noise. If it’s a spare bedroom or living space behind you, invest in some storage solutions like shelves, baskets or a small cupboard to keep the area tidy. This should ensure the focus remains on you.
Add personality with bookshelves
Bookshelves are a popular choice for WFH backdrops. They give off a sense of knowledge and professionalism while adding a charismatic, personal touch.
Arrange books vertically and horizontally for visual interest and consider including small plants or tasteful decorative items to break up the pattern. Avoid overly controversial or flashy book titles if those things are likely to be scrutinised in your work.
