HOW TO MAKE A QUICK GAME On holiday and it's raining again, or perhaps the children are on half term and are already bored, get them to help make this simple board game sometimes known as:- "Fox and Rabbits" Draw 25 circles in 5 rows of 5 each, on a piece of paper or card -
SETUP Place 10 x 2p. pieces (rabbits) across the bottom two rows of circles and 1 on each end of the centre row, as illustrated, and a 10p. piece (fox) in the middle of the centre row. OBJECT To win the rabbits must surround the fox, or the fox must capture all but one of the rabbits. MOVES One player controls all the rabbits and the other the fox. Both the rabbits and the fox can move one circle up, down or across (i.e. horizontally and vertically but not diagonally). METHOD The fox can capture the rabbits by jumping over them, as in draughts, and can make more than one jump in a turn IF ALL THE JUMPS ARE IN A STRAIGHT LINE. The fox starts the game. Tip - Make your own checker board by taking an old table and refinish it into the standard checkerboard style. If you do not have any checkers, make your own by using milk jug caps - you can leave some blue and paint the others red. (or any drinks bottle top could be used). Thanks to Siren for this .
