As can be seen on our page of
'authentic' collective nouns, the
'official' collective noun for moose is a 'HERD'
but, as these animals rarely congregate in large groups this
seems to be somewhat of a misnomer. I have received the
following comments from Marlene Lewis
in Alaska......
"I'd like to point out, however, that moose are not herd
animals. Here where we live in Alaska, we practically stumble
over the big, stupid galoots all year long. They are loners,
although you may see a large number occasionally browsing in the
same area. Therefore, my humble suggestion for an alternative to
HERD of moose is.... "
