FORMAL TABLE AND DINING ETIQUETTE

Although formal dining seems to be declining these days there maybe times when it is necessary to attend a formal function or even host one yourself.

Where do you start?

What cutlery do you use for each course?  What is the correct position for each item of cutlery, glass, plate etc?  What should each course aim to achieve?  Is there anything else of which we should be aware to avoid embarrassment?

Hopefully we can help answer some of these questions.

There is already an article here covering many aspects to help when attending or arranging a formal dinner party including table settings, but I have now found an excellent and informative infographic created by https://www.JESRestaurantEquipment.com that clearly lays out the rules of formal table etiquette.
